MARCH 24

PETITION CIRCULATION: First day to circulate petitions for independent and new political party candidates (90 days before last day to file petition).

​

MAY 3

JUDICIAL RETENTION: Last day for judges seeking retention in office to file a Declaration of Judicial Candidacy with the Secretary of State.

​

PUBLIC QUESTION-CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT: Last day to file petitions with the Secretary of State to amend Article IV of the State Constitution (minimum of 363,813 signatures).

​

PUBLIC QUESTION-STATEWIDE ADVISORY: Last day to file a statewide petition for advisory public policy question with the State Board of elections (minimum 363,813 signatures).

​

JUNE 15

NEW PARTY AND INDEPENDENT FILING BEGINS: First day for petition filing period for independent and new political party candidates.

​

JUNE 22

NEW PARTY AND INDEPENDENT FILING ENDS: Last day for petition filing period for independent and new political party candidates.

​

JUNE 29

OBJECTIONS TO NOMINATION PAPERS: Last day for filing objections to nomination papers for independent and new party candidates who filed June 15-22, 2020.

​

INCOMPATIBLE OFFICES: Last day to withdraw when an individual has filed for 2 or more incompatible offices during the June 15-22, 2020 filing period.

​

JULY 1

LOTTERY:  Last day to conduct lottery for the June 15th-22nd, 2020 filing period.

​

AUGUST 3

REFERENDA: Last day to file a petition for public question (Exception:  Proposition to create a political subdivision, referenda held under the provisions Article IX of the Liquor Control Act, and Section 18-120 of the Property Tax Code).

​

AUGUST 5

VOTE BY MAIL-APPLICATION: First day for any registered voter within the confines of the United States to make application by mail or in person for an official vote by mail ballot.

​

AUGUST 17

REFERENDA RESOLUTIONS: Last day for local governing boards to adopt resolution or ordinance for binding public questions to appear on the ballot.

​

Last day for County, Municipal, School, Township, and Park Boards to place advisory referenda on the ballot by resolution.

​

AUGUST 21

WITHDRAWAL OF CANDIDACY: Last day for independent and new political party candidates to file withdrawal papers with State Board of Elections.

​

BALLOT CERTIFICATION: Last day for State Board to certify the General Election ballot.

​

Last day for State Board of Elections to certify questions to amend the Constitution of Illinois and any statewide questions of public policy.

​

AUGUST 26

WITHDRAWAL OF CANDIDACY: Last day for independent and new political party candidates to file withdrawal of nomination papers in the office of the county clerk.

​

BALLOT CERTIFICATION: Last day for circuit clerk and local election officials to certify any binding public questions or advisory referenda to the election authority having jurisdiction over the political subdivision.

​

Last day for the county clerk to certify the General Election ballot.

​

AUGUST 27

BALLOT CERTIFICATION: Last day for county clerk to certify general election candidates to boards of election commissioners

​

SEPTEMBER 3

WRITE-IN CANDIDATES: Last day a person may file a Declaration of Intent to be a write-in candidate with the proper election authority.

​

SEPTEMBER 14

LEGISLATIVE AND REPRESENTATIVE COMMITTEE ORGANIZATION: Last day each legislative and representative committee shall meet and organize.

​

STATE PARTY CONVENTION: Last day for established party to hold a state party convention.

​

SCHEDULE FOR EARLY VOTING: Last day for election authority to provide State Board of Elections with a list of all early voting sites and hours.

​

SEPTEMBER 18

VOTE BY MAIL-UOCAVA: Last day for the election authority to have sufficient number of ballots available for mailing to persons in the U.S. service or their spouses, as well as voting age dependents, citizens temporarily residing outside the territorial limits of the U.S. and nonresident civilians.

​

SEPTEMBER 24

VOTE BY MAIL: First day for election authority to mail an official ballot to voters upon request.

​

EARLY VOTING: First day for early voting at the office of the election authority and temporary locations.

​

OCTOBER 6

CLOSE OF REGISTRATION: Last day for registration or transfer of registration within the offices of the election authority.

​

OCTOBER 7

GRACE PERIOD REGISTRATION AND VOTING: First day for grace period registration, voting or change of address in the office of the election authority or at a location designated for this purpose.

​

OCTOBER 19

EARLY VOTING-PERMANENT POLLING PLACES: First day of early voting for counties that have early voting at permanent polling places other than the office of the election authority.

​

OCTOBER 26

VOTE BY MAIL-UOCAVA: Last day for any voter who is a member of the U.S. service or their spouses, as well as voting age dependents, nonresident civilians, and citizens temporarily residing outside the U.S. to make application for an absentee ballot.

​

OCTOBER 29

VOTE BY MAIL: Last day for the election authority to receive application by mail from any registered voter.

​

NOVEMBER 2

EARLY VOTING: Last day for early voting.

​

VOTE BY MAIL: Last day for any registered voter to make application in person for a vote by mail ballot.

​

NOVEMBER 3

GRACE PERIOD REGISTRATION AND VOTING: Last day for grace period registration and voting.
